another veggie?
In a recent Ask Katy, you stated that Nick is the only veggie of thegroup..does that mean that Andy is no longer a veggie? Coz he used to be.Carla
I JUST SPOKE TO ANDY AND HE SAYS: "No, not a veggie!" [posted 10/21/2002]
andy's rig
Hi Katy, I have a question for Andy that has no doubt been asked before. What kind of guitar and rack rig (doesnt need to be in extremem detail, of course. Just the highlights) he's running nowadays? Thanks, Dan
"Equipment is a temperamental thing,Because I have started using pro-tools, life has changed...so the working parameters now for guitar stuff are massive....YET...you still need Gibson's Fender's Marshall's and Valves. Andy T."

andy's favorites
This is for Andy. What is your favorite song? Thanks, Marshall
"Okay if I must, although it can change from time to time, but if I was pushed then it's got to be on either Hunky Dory one of the first three tracks, or, shit this is difficult... Still in Love With You, Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy...Little Wing is to obvious but brilliant and after a few drinks then its Honky Tonk Woman & all the Stones...AT"

love conquers all
Hi everyone! I have a question for Andy. On the PS album Living In Fear, my favourite track is "Love Conquers All". I listen to it everyday, often very loudly! I was wondering, Andy who wrote the lyrics? While very direct, the words are inspirational! And I absolutely love your guitar 'bits' on that one; gives me goose bumps every time! Thanks a million! Morighan
"Robert wrote the lyrics to Love conquers all, glad you like them, he's not a bad lyric writer really, perhaps he should try it professionally...Andy T."

andy and then jericho
I've seen that you've worked a lot with "Then Jerico" , would you please tell us us the experience? Javier
"Lots of late nights with Mr Shaw, this was about 10-years ago now, however there is an album out there somewhere, not my favorite work I have to say, but perhaps worth a listen.AT"

3 q's for A.T
Hello Katy, Glad to see the original 5 back together again. DD was my first concert ever back in 1984 and I've been a fan ever since. Can you ask Andy, who is the greatest guitarist around, who his influences are and also what kind of black double-cutaway guitar did he play on Saturday Night Live w/ Duran back in 1983? Thanks, Blake
Greatest guitarist...probably Jeff Beck
Greatest influence..Gary Moore
Saturday nite live...Yamaha SG 90

andy's first recording
Hi Andy, Recently I finally obtained a copy of 'That's Rock 'n' Roll' by The Crying Shames. I was really amazed you did a great recording at such a young age. Can you remember recording it? And was it the first recording you ever did? Lots of love and guitar, Kirsten
"My memory totally fails me on this one, the first recording I did was when I was 15, and the song was called "Hey Jean." AT."

commando and the powerstation
My question is for Andy or John. I watched the movie "Commando" with Arnold Schwarzenegger today and noticed the main song at the end was written by Andyand Michael Des Barres and performed by Power Station. I was wondering how this arrangement came to be? Thanks,Clay
"It was recorded after Bob Palmer quit, Joel Silver the movie's producer really wanted PowerStation to do a track, so I knocked that one out in about 1/2 an hour before the session began and got the cheapest singer I could find, (you're not gonna get anywhere near Palmer standard so why try) and the movie guys put it in for the credits roll, which was nice. andy is a veggie?
Hi Katy, my question is for Andy..... I read that Andy was a vegetarian in the 80s. I wondered if he's still a veggie now and if not what happened?! Being a veggie now must be a lot easier than in the 80s when it was seen as hippy madness!? Being a veggie myself I feel fit and well but am lacking Iron... any tips??!! tee hee...bet you think im bonkers! love Katya xxx
"I just eat alot of fish now because they don't bleed when you kill them, and they are very good for you. AT."

naming names
Dear Katy,This question goes to either John or Andy. My husband has this old electric guitar he still plays. It's a black Squire. He named it a long time ago "Vellma". I was wondering do either of you name your guitars or basses? Love the site keep up the good work. Love Lots C-Hansen
"A friend of mine called his "the old beast" but personally I'd stick to pets.Andy T" "No. I heard that was what Jimi Hendrix used to do. Not me. I've never wanted to. JT"

I finally had the chance to see Andy's Live in Tokyo concert and noticed a tattoo on his arm. I was wondering what it was of and what inspired him to get one. Best wishes now and always! ~Tina

remembering the vice
His Katy & Duran Duran. This question is for Andy. I remember you performed "When the Rain Comes Down" on Miami Vice and was wondering what the story was behind the track and how you were invited on the show. Were you able to give the cast any much needed fashion tips. Thanks Gareth
"I honestly cannot remember doing this, but I knew Don in those days, nice guy I mean shit he was Crockett on Miami Vice, the most definitive 80's show me thinks. I do remenber they were not allowed to wear red on that show, and when we did it with Powerstation that caused a major row with us and the producers because our Kansai clother were heavily red. Now that is something to fall out about.AT."

andy's thunder
Hey Andy, Over the years I have tried to follow all the solo stuff of the band members, but for awhile I lost touch on everything until I got on the net. I have Thunder, its a fab cd..I love it! I have managed to get all of the bands work during that time of absence. I heard that you had a cd called Dangerous that was released, but I havent been able to find one anywhere. I have tried places like ebay and resale shops. Do you have any knowledge of where any copies might be that I could purchase?
Also We were wonderingwhy we never see you without the sunglasses..As I recall from the earlier 80's, your had some really nice eyes. Quite sexy! Thanks for your time. Looking forward to the new DD album~Chele~ Texas USA
It seems Andy doesn't answer eyeglasses questions, but he did get to the first part : "a&m released an album of covers I recorded called dangerous (before wacko) about 12 years ago, grey part of my memory, but I know it does exist somewhere.. believe it or not but I don't even have a copy.Andy T."

2 tracks on Notorious
Hi Katy, Great to see the Fab Five together again. I have a question for Andy. I think I once heard that Andy played on four tracks of the Notorious album. I'm quite certain that two of those are Notorious and American Science. I'm very curious what the other two tracks are. Bye bye, Wouter
"I cannot remember what I played on for the Notorious album, perhaps somebody can find out for me, I know its sad but its true.AT."

the crying shames
Hi Katy, I have a question for Andy. When you were with the group, The Crying Shames, the song, That's Rock 'N' Roll, right, was that a cover? I ask this because I knew the words to it and I had thought I had never heard it before. My husband knew it and so did my best mate. We live in Australia and the song must of got a fair bit of airplay down here at some point for us all to remember as we are in our mid 30s now. If it was a cover, who sang it? Andrew (hubby) says Suzi Q, or Joan Jett??? Is he wrong???
"I have never been in a band called the crying shames, I have never even heard of them, sorry to disappoint but I am clueless about this . AT"

Andy Plays Warren
Hi Katy, and hey to th' fellas. This question is for Andy. When playing songs from the "Warren era," will you play them "by the numbers," or will you be flavoring them with some of your own unique style and guitar sound? And how difficult will that be? And dammit, I STILL want to know how you feel about it! Tom in San Francisco.
"I suppose we will cross that bridge when we get to it and find out what material works best from the various line-ups, I don't get many requests for electric barbarella myself, but were I asked, well I am sure we could bring some of that stuff to a good sounding place with this line up, having said that between the 5 of us there is a lot of material to play, old & new, so I guess you won't be disappointed and neither shall I. AT."

andy economics
I would like to ask a question to Andy Taylor. In the early 80's many members of Duran Duran mentioned something called Andy Economics. I have always wondered what Andy Economics is. Andy I would appreciate it if you could please tell me about Andy Economics. Thank You! Love ya, Christie Gates Thanks for your time
"Make it up as you go along, which is how most thing are done in the music business. AT."
